What Is NAD and Why Is it Important?
brain, levels, important, enzymes, body, study, conditions, spray, nasal, stre

NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme in the body and is important because of the role it plays in managing stress and keeping people mentally focused. NAD occurs in the body, but if someone’s level gets low, they may have difficulty focusing and paying attention, and they may be prone to depression and anxiety. Building up NAD levels can help alleviate these problems and improve mental clarity and health.

If you suffer from symptoms caused by low levels of NAD, the good news is that there is an easy way to build it up again. Wellness professionals can analyze a patient’s condition and prescribe an NAD+ nasal spray to help. The NAD+ nasal spray is important because, in addition to NAD, it combines RG3 (ginseng) and vitamin B12 for extra effectiveness.

The Importance of NAD Levels

NAD levels play an important role in the body. To understand how NAD works, consider the role of enzymes and coenzymes. Enzymes, which are usually proteins, are needed in the body to speed up chemical reactions within cells. Enzymes play important roles such as helping break down and digest foods. Coenzymes are nonprotein compounds that are needed for enzymes to function.

NAD is a coenzyme of vitamin B3 (niacin) that is necessary for several metabolic processes. NAD+ (with the extra boost from ginseng and vitamin B12) supports high energy and a healthier metabolism, decreases inflammation, repairs damaged DNA, and activates enzymes to facilitate important bodily processes, such as alcohol metabolization.

While NAD occurs in the body, levels decline gradually as people get older and are subject to stress. Low NAD levels keep essential enzymes from functioning well, which increases the risk for diseases such as type 2 diabetes and depression.

How NAD Helps the Body Function

According to a study published in the journal Metabolism: Clinical and Experimental Health, NAD is an important factor in regulating the hypothalamus gland, a portion of the brain that is critical for maintaining normal energy balance. The study found that giving NAD externally allows it to be transported to the hypothalamus and increases the gland’s NAD content, essential if the NAD level is depleted. The study’s conclusion was that “NAD supplementation is a potential therapeutic method for metabolic disorders characterized by a hypothalamic NAD depletion.”

Other studies have shown that NAD helps other conditions, including the following.

Problems With Brain Functioning, Injuries, and Brain Ischemia.

A study published in the journal Frontiers in Bioscience: A Journal and Virtual Library found evidence that “NAD+ administration may be a novel strategy for decreasing brain damage in cerebral ischemia and possibly other… associated neurological diseases.”

Traumatic Brain Injuries

NAD reduces the death of neurons damaged by traumatic brain injuries, and may even prevent neuronal death following brain injuries, stroke, and Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), which is a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain, often called a mini-stroke. These conditions occur when blood cells containing oxygen are unable to reach the brain, leaving brain cells damaged or destroyed.

Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Prions (Misfolded Proteins)

A study published in Brain: A Journal of Neurology reports that NAD+ treatment improved cognitive functions in Alzheimer’s disease patients and in patients with Parkinson’s disease, as well as from neuronal death from misfolded prion protein. The study concluded that further cognitive decline from these diseases can be helped by NAD+ replenishment.

What Is NAD+ Nasal Spray and Why Is it Important and Effective?

NAD+ nasal spray allows people to increase NAD+ levels safely and easily without visiting the doctor’s office. Unlike oral means of delivery that must go through the gastrointestinal tract, spraying NAD+ directly into the nose delivers it straight to the bloodstream. This form of delivery immediately raises the body’s NAD+ levels and has been shown to be even more effective than injections at restoring NAD+ in the hippocampus area of the brain.

In addition, NAD+ can help individuals who may have problems with memory and brain function that are linked to poor lifestyle behaviors and underlying health conditions, including:

  • Chronic stress
  • Poor diet and lack of proper nutrition
  • A sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise
  • Smoking and use of alcohol, illegal drugs, and other medications
  • Exposure to pesticides and other toxins
  • Health conditions such as type 2 diabetes

You should always speak with a doctor before starting new treatments of any kind to make sure the treatment is safe for you.
