Does Sermorelin Make You Hungry?

Home » Knowledge Center » Hormone Therapy » Does Sermorelin Make You Hungry?

Some people report that sermorelin makes them feel hungry, but there is no evidence as to whether it is the injection, a need to take it on an empty stomach, or another factor at work. A person can drink water to help reduce their hunger until they can eat.

Because of the way sermorelin works, users are generally told to inject the medication in a specific way at a specific time of day, depending on their doctor’s orders. They may have been directed to take sermorelin on an empty stomach, spurring their appetite to spike.

Sermorelin May Be Administered on an Empty Stomach

If you’re wondering, does sermorelin make you hungry, the bottom line is that a patient may feel hungry after taking sermorelin, even if it is not the fault of the medication. A doctor may have instructed them to take it on an empty stomach and wait a certain length of time before eating or drinking anything except water. There is discussion stating that sermorelin can make you hungry, however, many people likely feel hungry before they even take the injection!

Because sermorelin may affect insulin levels (as reported by a study published in the Reference Module in Biomedical Sciences), a doctor may have advised a patient to take sermorelin in between meals. People do not want to lower the efficacy of the sermorelin injection by having food in their systems when they take it and were told explicitly not to so so.

Human Growth Hormone is Related to the Hunger Hormone

There is a relationship between human growth hormone and ghrelin, as supported by a study published in the European Journal of Endocrinology. Sometimes nicknamed “the hunger hormone,” ghrelin is a gastric peptide released in various amounts from the stomach, small intestine, pancreas, and brain, according to a study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. Increasing the secretions of this peptide can result in extreme hunger and even weight gain.

Ghrelin, like sermorelin, stimulates the secretion of human growth hormone. It also bolsters glucose oxidation and lipogenesis. Lastly, it is known to significantly increase appetite. If someone’s hormone replacement therapy includes human growth hormone or any other hormone that could increase the amount of ghrelin produced by the body, the person may develop a voracious appetite.

In this way, it could seem like sermorelin makes someone hungry. In reality, their increased appetite is likely due to the sermorelin triggering the release of other chemicals that causes a person’s appetite. If it disrupts a person’s life significantly, they can discuss it with their doctor.

Sermorelin Helps Increase Human Growth Hormone Levels

The purpose of sermorelin therapy, in most cases, is to increase human growth hormone levels in the body. A study published in the journal Clinical Interventions in Aging states that the drug was originally developed for children and adolescents with pituitary gland dysfunction. However, it is also effective at raising the level of human growth hormone in adults with declining or low levels of this important chemical.

This is an off-label use (when a patient uses a drug that is “approved to treat a condition different than your condition,” according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality”), so the outcomes do not have the same rigorous testing as used in children and adolescents. However, sermorelin is frequently prescribed as a key component in a larger hormone therapy plan to restore HGH levels. The HealthGAINS members who underwent this type of hormone replacement therapy plan utilizing sermorelin reported:

  • Better ability to focus and concentrate
  • Improved mental function and cognition
  • Increased energy
  • Improved cardiovascular health and endurance
  • Stronger immune system
  • Better sleep quality
  • Improved skin texture and elasticity
  • Improved bone density
  • Loss of body fat and increased muscle mass
  • Increased libido, sexual potency, and frequency

Members who follow their customized plan carefully will not only receive injections and other medications, but they may also make significant changes to their diet, fitness, and lifestyle to support their therapy plan. If a person feels like they have lost their edge, they may benefit from a HealthGAINS plan.

HealthGAINS Uses Medically Proven Therapies

HealthGAINS uses science-based, bio-Identical, medically proven therapies. Before a doctor prescribes sermorelin, they need to ensure it is right for the patient and his or her needs. One of the first steps in the process is drawing blood and running it through a lab panel. The results will tell a doctor if sermorelin therapy might be effective for increasing a patient’s hormone levels to give him or her a boost toward optimal wellness.

After a doctor receives the results of a patient’s blood work, they can determine a customized plan to address any declining or low hormone levels. If a person has low human growth hormone levels, sermorelin therapy may be appropriate. A doctor will not prescribe this therapy unless the patient has a hormone deficiency that could be improved by sermorelin injections.

Because HealthGAINS only uses medically proven therapies and programs, people can feel confident that only their direct needs will be addressed with cutting-edge treatment designed specifically for their gender, age, and stage of life.
