What Is ThermiTight?

Home » Knowledge Center » Wellness » What Is ThermiTight?

According to a study published in Laryngoscope Intensive Otolaryngology, ThermiTight is a “thermistor‐controlled subdermal skin tightening for the aging face intended to stimulate collagen production and provide “precise and controlled subdermal heating” radio frequency via the skin. During the ThermiTight treatment, the temperature of the skin is monitored and controlled using a handheld device.

People whose faces are showing the effects of age and life may also be interested in the ThermiSmooth treatment, the procedure is pain-free and non-invasive. There is no downtime. People can go right back to their ordinary schedule after a therapy session.

How ThermiSmooth Works

Doctors use radiofrequency to encourage the body to produce more collagen, a connective tissue that provides structure for the skin. They can treat these areas of the face and throat with this neocollagenesis process:

  • Laugh lines around the nose and lips (nasolabial folds).
  • Bags and circles under the eyes.
  • Eyelids that droop or sag.
  • Lines on the forehead.
  • Loose jowls.
  • Premature aging on the neck.
  • Sagging, lined cheeks.
  • Wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging around the eyes and mouth.

Skin can look smoother and younger after treatment. ThermiSmooth does not use dermal fillers. There are no injections. Patients do not have to deal with risks like scars, pain, infection, and bleeding that can occur after a surgical procedure. The RF energy increases the production of collagen in the skin, tightening and smoothing the problem areas of the face and neck.

ThermiTight is performed with a small, handheld instrument. When doctors place the device on the affected skin, the instrument sends out painless RF energy. A patient might feel warm and have a sensation similar to a heated massage. A therapy session lasts about half an hour.

Most people achieve the results they want with around three sessions of ThermiSmooth treatments. Doctors spread these therapy visits out over a few weeks to give the body time to produce the additional collagen between sessions.

After the initial round of sessions, a patient can easily maintain his or her new appearance. The results can last for a long time. Typically, people need maintenance treatment only once every nine months to a year.

Things That Can Age the Skin and Make One Look Older

The Mayo Clinic reports that these things are the most common factors that affect the texture and structure of the skin, and can thereby cause wrinkles:

Genetics

If someone’s parents had lots of wrinkles, his or her skin will have a tendency to develop lines. Many physical tendencies pass from parent to child, including wrinkle patterns.

Age

Over time, the fat below the surface of the skin decreases, making the skin sag and accentuating the appearance of wrinkles. The skin also produces lower levels of its oils, so it gets dry and fragile and loses its elasticity.

Sun Exposure

Unless someone lives in a cave, they will get sun exposure on their face, throat, arms, and hands as they go about their daily routine. The ultraviolet (UV) rays in sunlight deteriorate the connective tissue below the skin, causing the skin to wrinkle earlier than it otherwise would. When these elastin and collagen fibers break down, the skin sags and develops lines.

Repetitive Facial Expressions

Every time someone smiles, frowns, squints, or in some way moves the muscles in their face, a groove develops under their skin. When the skin loses its elasticity, grooves can eventually become permanent.

Pollutants

Poor air quality can affect the health of the skin. Washing the skin can help remove the dirt and particles of dust and grime from its surface.

Alcohol

Heavy alcohol consumption can prematurely age the face. A study published in The BMJ confirms that “heavy alcohol use … [is] associated with generally looking older than one’s actual age.”

Smoking

Smoking can impact the structure and texture of the skin from the inside and the outside because smoking decreases collagen. The BMJ study also confirms that smoking increases the likelihood of developing wrinkles.

Although a certain amount of wrinkling is a normal part of aging, there are ways to minimize the amount of damage the skin sustains and to “turn back the hands of time” a few years. While doctors cannot make a 90-year-old look 19, they can help a patient achieve a healthier, more youthful appearance.

How to Avoid Wrinkles

There are things one can do to minimize the number of wrinkles that develop.

  • People can cut back on sun exposure. Excessive “sun-worshipping” can lead to much more severe problems than wrinkles, so everyone should limit the time that they bask in the sun. People should avoid sun exposure in the middle of the day, when the UV rays are the strongest. When practical, people should cover up outdoors, and use sunglasses, long-sleeved shirts, and hats with wide brims.
  • Sunscreen is a friend. People should make the application of sunscreen a part of their daily routines, including in their skincare products. A person should apply sunscreen generously whenever they are outdoors and should reapply frequently.
  • Dry skin looks more wrinkled, so one should plump up the skin with a daily moisturizer.
  • Proper nutrition and water help keep the skin healthy. Drinking plenty of water prevents dehydration and attacks dry skin from the inside.
  • People should stop smoking. One can prevent future wrinkles by quitting smoking. After someone stops, the texture and tone of their skin can improve.

Despite people’s best efforts, some wrinkles are inevitable. HealthGAINS can help restore a younger, healthier appearance.
