Is Sermorelin a Controlled Substance?

Home » Knowledge Center » Hormone Therapy » Is Sermorelin a Controlled Substance?

No, sermorelin is not a controlled substance, according to the schedule of controlled substances monitored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). However, it is illegal to buy or sell without a prescription. In other words, the only way to obtain sermorelin legally and safely is to undergo an evaluation and have it prescribed to you by a medical professional.

Products that claim to contain sermorelin in vitamin stores or online health stores are either counterfeit, illegal, or an untested product with unknown ingredients. You should only take sermorelin prescribed by your doctor, and take it as your doctor recommended.

Sermorelin is usually given in injection form, according to the Mayo Clinic. If you undergo sermorelin treatment, you will need to give yourself daily subcutaneous injections. This is done with a small needle and goes into the fatty tissue just under the skin.

Getting a Sermorelin Prescription Requires Meeting Certain Criteria

Before your doctor writes a prescription for sermorelin injections, there are several steps they need to take to ensure this is the best, most effective option to increase your levels of human growth hormone. First, they should require blood work. At HealthGAINS, you will need a lab panel so we can look at your hormone levels.

If we see you have low or declining levels of human growth hormone in your system, we may prescribe sermorelin injections as a part of a wider plan to raise your levels and keep them where they need to be. We will also take your health history and ensure you do not have any elevated risks for interactions or side effects.

Only once we have confirmed you are a good candidate and that this is the most effective potential therapy do we prescribe sermorelin to you.

Sermorelin Is Easier to Obtain Than Other Hormone Replacement Therapy Drugs

Some states consider human growth hormone a controlled substance, and the criteria you must meet before a doctor will prescribe it is certainly more stringent everywhere than it is for sermorelin. Because the human growth hormone is a controlled substance, it can only be prescribed for on-label use and for a small variety of conditions. This is generally limited to children and adolescents with serious growth concerns or pituitary dysfunction.

On the other hand, sermorelin is not a controlled substance. This does not mean you should try to buy it without a doctor’s approval and monitoring, though. It is still a prescription drug and not available legally without a prescription. However, it can be prescribed and used for off-label uses, such as boosting human growth hormone levels in aging adults.

Our Members Report Great Outcomes from Sermorelin Injections

Sermorelin is often used in hormone replacement therapy. It does not replace lost human growth hormone, but it does stimulate the body to produce more of this hormone, as well as others. HealthGAINS typically includes sermorelin injections as a part of a plan that addresses declining or low human growth hormone levels from several angles.

Members who receive sermorelin therapy from HealthGAINS as a part of one of these comprehensive plans report having positive outcomes following therapy. They report a number of improvements in health and overall wellness, including:

  • Increases in energy, focus, and concentration
  • Increased endurance and stamina
  • Increased muscle mass
  • Increased libido and other positive sexual changes
  • Improved skin and skin elasticity
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Improved bone strength
  • Strengthened immune system
  • Better, more restful sleep
  • A decrease in body fat
  • Improved cognitive function and memory

Not all of our members report all of these changes, and some people respond better to hormone replacement therapy than others.

HealthGAINS Builds Individualized Treatment Plans for Every Member

If you become a HealthGAINS member and request your blood work, our team will go to work to determine the best course of action for you. We will need to perform a blood test to understand your current hormone levels and the therapeutic levels that might restore your body to its previous “normal” levels. We use these tests to determine if sermorelin therapy will be effective in your case.

Once we can analyze your lab panel, and we know if you have a hormone deficiency that might respond to sermorelin, we can begin to develop a customized sermorelin plan to attempt to improve your levels and address your hormone deficiency.

Our team uses cutting-edge therapies and medically-proven programs to create a comprehensive plan for men and women at any age or any stage of life. We may be able to help you address other declining hormone levels or other wellness concerns, as well.

Hormone Therapy FAQ:

Can Bioidentical Hormones Cause Weight Gain?

As we age, our bodies naturally reduce the production of certain hormones, including estrogen and progesterone in women, and testosterone in men. Both men and women may have declining thyroid levels. These dramatic hormonal imbalances may contribute to weight gain and other unwanted symptoms. Bioidentical hormones restore your body’s natural balance of these hormones. Many ...

How Long Does It Take to Feel Better on Thyroid Medication?

Many patients ask how long it takes to feel better on thyroid medication, but the answer is always: it depends. Every patient is different, but thyroid hormone replacement therapy, which is administered through injections, is a long-lasting medication. This means that it generally takes multiple weeks for the effects of the therapy to take hold ...

What Is a Good Natural Hormone Replacement?

Our bodies naturally stop making hormones as we get older. For perimenopausal women, the lack of estrogen and progesterone results in hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain, and other unpleasant symptoms. Older men also suffer from hormonal imbalances, such as thinning hair, loss of muscle tone, and erectile dysfunction. There are several options for counteracting ...

Why Would a Man Have Low Testosterone?

A man can have low testosterone because his body produces less of the substance than before due to aging, low thyroid function, or some medical conditions. Just as women go through menopause, men can experience andropause, which is the medical term for low levels of testosterone. Other terms for this condition include late-onset male hypogonadism, ...
